Tell us something about yourself.
My real name is Peter Adams. I was born on the 21st of March 1968 in Turnhout, Belgium. I'm married and I have two sons (Jeroen and Stefan). I'm working in the Electronic PrePress Department at Proost CPI (Printing Factory) as a Mac and Scanner Operator. My main interests are football and C64 (collecting demos and magazines).
What handle(s) did you use and how did you come up with it/them?
My first handle was The Creator just because I created things on the C64 and I had no original handle (I also had the idea of using ACE, Agent 21 or Agent Orange). This handle was used in a few productions I did all by myself (Rest in Pieces, Not for Profis and Ultimate Music Hack 1, 2 and 3). I've been using xIII as my handle from 1998 until the present day. It was taken from the comic book with the same name which is very popular in Belgium, France and Poland.
What group(s) were you in?
I still am and will always be a member of Warriors of the Wasteland (WOW), if they don't kick me for some reason. ;)
What roles have you fulfilled?
I started as a co-editor for our diskmag Internal and later on I became a swapper for a couple of months. When Einstein was too busy with real life, I became the groups' organiser together with The Alien but I hope that this will change again soon (Einstein will be back!). I did a little coding (Firstro, Alienated, Transparent Rasterbars) but no spectacular stuff.
How long were you active for?
I started off in 1998 and I'm still kinda active.
Tell us about those years and how you got into the scene in the first place.
I joined the scene very late eventhough I got my C64 in 1985. I met Einstein on IRC and he asked me to join WOW as a co-editor for Internal, which I did.
Describe a typical day for you in front of the computer.
C64: playing games with my sons (mostly Cabal because they like shooting). :) PC: Sorting out old and new demos from old and new groups using Star Commander and Vice.
Did you personally invent any special techniques or tools to make things easier for you?
Just some .bat files on PC to make packing and unpacking easier. :)
When you look at what you did back then, what are you most proud of?
I'm proud of what I do for the C64 today: preserving demos and magazines on CD-ROM and I can assure you that it's a hell of a job.
Who were your heroes on the scene and why?
Everybody who did C64 demos were my heroes (people who did code, graphics, music, and even scrolltexts). :) The first party I visited was X2000 and I met (or just saw): AEG, GRG, Groepaz, King Fisher, Krill, Reyn Ouwehand and I really looked up to those guys back then. These days I have no idols.
What, for you, was the coolest thing ever invented on the C64?
The demo.
Did you go to any copy-parties, meetings or tradeshows?
I visited X2000, X2001 and the Role Party 2002 plus The Barn 3, 4 and 5 (our annual WOW meeting in Holland).
In your opinion, what was the scene all about?
Just plain fun and it was a good timewaster. :)
What were the particular highlights for you?
X2000 because it was my first party ever and I met cool guys and had lotsa fun with all the WOWsers present!
Any cool stories to share with us?
Nah, not really.
Are you still in contact with any old C64 people today?
I hang around on IRC #c-64 or surf the web for C64 stuff and sometimes I find (interesting) old C64 people. Just talked to Kernal the other day asking (and receiving) his old demos.
When did you get your C64 and do you still have it lying around somewhere?
I bought my C64 in 1985 and I got a second C64 from my sister in law a couple of years ago. Both are in my kids playing room so they (and me as well) can play games on them.
Was the C64 really as special as we like to think it was?
It was and still is!
When can we expect to see some new C64 output from you? :)
Maybe another issue of Internal in 2004 or a small demo from one of our WOW meetings. Who knows...
Do you have a message for your old contacts and/or anyone reading this?
WOW - On with the show - WOW. Keep it up guys!
